Kamasutra

The Kama Sutra is an Indian treatise, which was probably written between the first and the fourth century AD. We will not go into the details of historical and linguistic meaning of this word, because Kamasutra for all means a kind of treatise on love and should be seen as such. Everyone who has read, or rather seen the book Kamasutra, knows that it is a collection of the art of love in which the positions of sexual intercourse are presented and described in detail. The positions are presented in theory and practice and Kamasutra can be also referred as a guide to the world of intimate caresses and sexual skills of both partners.

In a colloquial sense, the word Kamasutra refers not so much to the book itself as to the art of love presented in it. Its characteristic feature is a very intensive use of the partners' acrobatic abilities, giving the possibility to achieve truly unusual effects. However, it is not an art only for experts and very athletic people, since the authors of Kamasutra intended to enrich the erotic life of all readers, not only courtesans and representatives of the highest castes in India. People with less flexible bodies, can find many solutions to enrich their erotic life regardless of the limitations of their physicality.

A very strong cultural taboo, which has been created towards sex in our part of the world, was for a very long time a barrier preventing the ideas contained in Kamasutra from reaching our land. Many people still are suspicious when talking about Kamasutra and they expect to find all kinds of dangerous or inappropriate practices. However, there is nothing of that sort and all adults can with a clear conscience read the most important guide of the art of love in the history of the world.
